Thursday Senior Mixed

Draw Time: 9:30 – 11:30am

Fall Schedule: September 29 – December 15, 2022

Spring Schedule: January 5 – March 23, 2023

Here are the Champions! Team Weiss defeated Team Heppner in the Day of Champions to claim our League Championship.

The smiling winners are Eric Weiss, Heather Putz, Trudy Wallace, and Gord Wallington. There was no cash prize but there is some prestige. I am sure that the reigning champions will all be contending (with different teams) next spring. Congratulations!

We wrapped up the second session of the Thursday Morning Mixed Seniors League on Thursday, March 23, 2023. The first-place team was Team Heppner. The runner-up was Team McLaren.

Nothing makes folks smile more than cold, hard cash. The happy winners were Art Heppner, Dawn Richmond, Beth Loney and Dave Dayton. Art and his team will now play in our Day of Champions against Team Weiss.

The second-place team consoled themselves with less money, but they still had a respectable win percentage of 70%.

The second-place team was happy to finish in the money. Darlene McLaren, Brian Frankish, Ted Yudelson and Sylvia Peary led most of the season, but they faltered a little as the sessions ended. However, happiness is enjoying what one has.

This image features one of our un-sung heroes. Allyson Hambley supervises our Club Kitchen. Today Allyson and her crew prepared three different soups and some delicious blueberry and apple crumbles to accompany the sandwich trays. We certainly eat well!

Many of our league members will be volunteering as we host the curling event for the BC 55+ games that will be held in Abbotsford on August 22 – 26, 2023. Enjoy the summer!

It’s All About the Food!
The Thursday Morning Mixed Seniors League offers fun and
fellowship but its most endearing feature is the food. Each
team provides a luncheon over our twelve-week schedule.

This week Team McLaren dazzled us with some homemade chilli – a great antidote to the coldest morning that we have yet endured.

Interested in joining? More information about the league is below.

League Info and News

The Seniors’ Mixed Thursday morning league highlights the pleasurable participation of curling. Every effort is made to place individual curlers in their preferred positions on one of the league teams. Our goal is to have twelve teams this year.

The after-game luncheon fare consists of sandwiches or wraps, veggie and/or fruit trays and sweets – tarts, cakes and cookies. Coffee is provided at the usual $1 per cup. The two teams who play against each are encouraged to eat together after the game.

This year’s Seniors’ Mixed Bonspiel is scheduled for Friday, December 2 to Sunday, December 4. Please place this fun event on your calendar. Local teams are given preferential registration.

The Executive would like to replicate the good work of Eric and Edith who guided us through a very successful season last year. We may be over fifty years of age, but we are still active and contributing members of the Abbotsford Curling Club!

We welcome your ideas and suggestions. We are certainly going to need your help in hosting our Seniors Mixed Bonspiel in December. Please be prepared to pitch in when you are requested to do so.

We will circulate the team rosters once Kent provides us with the names of everyone who registers on-line for our league. The Executive will provide the lunch for the first game of the season on September 29, 2022.

Enjoy what remains of the summer. There are still some spots for The Academy of Curling on September 16 – 18 featuring Russ Howard and Mary-Anne Arsenault if you want to learn from some Canadian curling legends.

Finally, we are still seeking new members. Please invite your friends, family members and neighbours to consider joining us for another year of action at the Abbotsford Curling Club.
